Category: Apple

Today, I found out that Apple has decided to make the whole App Store PG-13, which means no nudity whatsoever – including people in swimsuits. Yes, people in ACTUAL FUCKING SWIMSUITS ARE FORBIDDEN.

5000 apps removed.

I, personally, don’t agree with Apple at all. This wasn’t porn. (Yet there is porn for the iPhone). This wasn’t even NUDITY. This was completely normal. Yet those f*cking evangelical puritanical teabagging christian conservative f*cks want even the slightest hint of skin pulled from the app store.

Here’s an idea: If you don’t want to see nudity, then (obviously you’re retarded)… don’t buy/get these apps! There are plenty more to choose from, which do not have any bare skin whatsoever.
If you don’t want your children to see it, then (obviously you are a follower of a certain religion and therefore, quite frankly, f*cking retarded, but nevertheless) there are always parental controls for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Or better yet, don’t buy your child an iPhone/iPod Touch then!

Seriously, what’s wrong with you people?

What do you think? Where do you draw the line?

iPad. Game changer? I doubt it.

When I first saw the device, I was a bit sceptical. It didn’t seem like a very Apple-ish design, at first. But the minute I saw it on apple.com/ipad, I was immediately in love with it.

I really, really want one.

What I don’t like about it is the fact that it’s got the 4:3 screen format, which is old and outdated. And it hasn’t got any USB ports.

But there are many things I do like about it. For instance, the fact that it can run iPhone apps, natively. And calendar + address book – that interface! Wow… It looks like it’s going to be the single easiest-to-use thing, ever.

But the fact of the matter is, I’m not sure I want one before I actually use one.

It looks brilliant, but it all depends on how you can put it to use. I mean, you can’t just slide it into your pocket. And it’s a bit too small to be a personal computer. So, what it is then, is a hybrid between an iPhone and a MacBook Pro.

Except it isn’t. It doesn’t have many features of the MacBook and it’s a lot bigger than the iPhone. And you can’t use it as a phone, either. Not even with a headset. And using this to listen to music on the go, quite frankly, is a bit of an overkill.

Nevertheless, a stand-by time of a month is incredibly impressive. Although, I’m not sure if it matters, though…

It’s impressive, but it’s no game changer.

Record labels always tell us the same old story… If you don’t know what this story is, I will tell you now:
“Music sales are declining because people are downloading our music illegally. Piracy is wrong! Boo-hoo. We are such a bunch of crybabies and lobbyists who can’t adapt to the changing market.” or something in those lines. It’s pathetic. Really pathetic.

If you know me, you’d know that I sometimes download music illegally. Why? Because the music you make isn’t worth buying. And because illegal downloading is faster and easier. You say, how can it be faster? For me it is. Since there isn’t an online store in this part of the world and I couldn’t be bothered to go outside to buy music, only to find out that they don’t sell this album… And never will.

And I can’t use the UK or US iTunes store to get my tunes either. Well, unless you actually go to the UK or US and buy an iTunes gift card… It’s all way too f*cking pointless.

One thing springs immediately to mind: Why the f*ck not?

And another thing that makes me want to throw a bricka molotov cocktail through some b*tch-ass lobbyist’s window.

These days they are complaining about lost sales and all that bullsh*t. But the real reason the music is getting less sales… well, it is mainly two things:

1) Music sucks these days. Gaga sucks. Cirus sucks. Jonas Brothers suck each other off..

2) The recession. Have you guys heard of it? No, seriously? Maybe people can’t afford to buy your sh*t music anymore?

And you know, what? Record sales are up through the roof.

I woke up at 9 o’clock this morning.

Not because I wanted to, not because I needed to, but because someone called me.

It’s Saturday morning. If you knew me, you’d know I have really hard and long days during the work week, and prefer to sleep on Saturdays till, at least, two o’clock in the afternoon.

But no, it wasn’t because they had something urgent to tell me. Nothing is that urgent that it would wake me up 5 hours before I need to.

It was the usual broken PC thing. They had disconnected it and moved it into another room, but were unable to put it back together again. C’mon, how hard can it be to plug things back into where they were before? It’s not like all ports look the same and everything fits together. It’s not like you can mix up the monitor port and the USB…

And then they wanted me to do something completely new and surprising – send an e-mail from their behalf. I’m not kidding. They actually wanted me to send someone an e-mail from their behalf…
What the hell happened to phones?

Couldn’t they just call them if it was so urgent?

It’s not like most people read their e-mail on Saturdays, anyway. I know I don’t.

And then, after 10 minutes of the sleepiest tech support ever I thought this was it. The call ended, and I thought it was over so I could go back to sleep.

5 minutes later I got another call… The same people asking me to send another e-mail.
For f**ks sake. Couldn’t they have just told me the contents of both e-mails at once…
And, to make matters worse, I actually had to look the e-mail address up.

What the hell?

After all that headache, I couldn’t sleep any longer, so I decided to treat myself to a new router. I went to a really nice and new shopping centre in the city centre and bought myself a new router – an Airport Extreme. And I went to a Latvian restaurant and had, what probably was, the best thing I’ve ever eaten…
Then I headed home to set up my new network. And then I satisfied my OCD by cleaning my whole office, including every single key on every single keyboard.

Dear Apple…

Dear Apple,

I was anxious to try out the new iTunes 9 and iPhone OS 3.1, but to my disappointment, both were worse than the old versions.
First of all, the iTunes interface is ugly. Look, I like your products for one main reason, they don’t look like they want to tear out my eyes when I’m looking at them.
But, iTunes 9: Lighter top bar? Gradients on buttons? Lighter icons? Seriously? While everything else in OS X has gone darker, this has gone lighter?
Mac OS X 10.6.1 update was good though.

There was a good thing in it, that was the ability to rearrange my home screens inside iTunes. But, that was only available to 3.1. 3.0 upgrade was good. 3.0.1 was good. They worked fine…

But today, my iPhone, suddenly, it synced for an hour! What the ****, Apple? What the ****?

With 3.0 it synced for a MAXIMUM of 3 minutes. Even when 2.0 came out it synced for like a max of 10 minutes. But an hour? No, but seriously: It does not take an hour to copy ALL my data over (I have 5GB of it) USB. And it didn’t have to copy all over as it already had all the data on it….

Screw you, Apple.

Sincerely,
your (probably ex-) customer,

Johannes.

I wish I had an Apple TV

I’ve been after one of those for a year now and I just don’t seem to get a spare $500 (that’s how much it costs here!) to get the 40GB version.

Why? I love the interface. I ran it on my Mac Mini for some time and it was great. Now I want to use my Mac Mini as my secondary desktop computer. But when I do that, I don’t have a TV media centre machine anymore.

Besides, boxee for Apple TV would make it a fine media centre system, adding a lot more features and removing the iTunes-jail it currently has.

I wish I had one. That way, I wouldn’t want or need another Mac so I could use all my current ones.

It’s been two years since I got my first Mac and a year since I got my second Mac + my iPhone.

Today I realized – I haven’t used my Windows XP / Ubuntu 9.04 PC for a couple of weeks and I haven’t noticed anything different. Is it really time to switch fully to Mac?

Technically I am a Mac user, since I use Mac OS X most (about 3/4) of my time.

But for the past two weeks, I have used Mac OS X a lot (about 95%) of my time, leaving about 5% to Ubuntu and I didn’t use Windows once. Well, I did, but it wasn’t my own PC.

And If I play games, I have noticed I do it on my MacBook, not on the Windows PC as it isn’t in my home office.

I can’t find a use for my Windows PC anymore. At least no other use than for testing Windows-only Applications. But wait, I have crossover, parallels and vmware fusion.

And I can always use Boot Camp…

I also use Ubuntu on that machine, but I can also do that on my MacBook and my Eee 701 4G Surf.

I’m not going to stop using Windows, as 7 is coming out and it looks like it’s going to be cool.

What do you think?

And, please, no OS wars in comments, as this ISN’T a post that says Macs are better.

This problem affects the following MacBooks:
MacBook (13-inch, Late 2007)
MacBook (13-inch, Early 2008)
MacBook (13-inch, Late 2008)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2008)
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2008)
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2008)

Symptoms include ping dropping to 200-2000ms, network speeds dropping to 1-5Mbps, slow browsing, slow downloads.

Luckily, there’s a fix for that:
Link to the fix.

Another rant, but this time not on the topic of music.

I’m mainly a Mac user, you all probably know that. I use Windows, too. I also like using Linux, although it isn’t my favourite. I prefer the Mac experience.

You may prefer a PC and use mainly a PC. I don’t hate you for that. I would never do that. I stay completely neutral.

But arguing over which OS is the best is just rubbish and horrible. Everyone has different opinions, some reasonable, some plain and simply ignorant and either outdated or false. Both about the PC or the Mac.

I have reasons for using the Mac. And you may have reasons for using the PC. I accept and acknowledge that, too.

The real reason i use the Mac is that it works for ME. It may not work for you. You may hate using it.
I don’t hate you for hating it IF you have actually used it. But I do hate, and truly hate those people who haven’t used a Mac (ever/lately) and make useless posts about them being horrible. The same goes for those who haven’t used a PC (ever/lately). I hate those who haven’t tried and prefer the one they have tried. They are “dorks” in my eyes. Or maybe “tards.”

I’m not trying to start an OS war. I’m stating that I HATE OS WARS. I HATE HATERS. Well, that means i’m also a hater? But if I… whatever. Doesn’t really matter.

I haven’t got any of the consoles, but I prefer the PS3, since I like it’s graphics. I have used it and also I’ve used the XBOX360 and the Wii and prefer the PS3 out of the three.
But, since I’m not a gamer, I don’t care which is best.

Use whatever you like and whatever works for you.
